Newly set up Wi-Fi hotspots will be put into operation on October 10 to commemorate the 1,010 year anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi.
According to a report by VnExpress, Hanoi will provide free Wi-Fi to 14 other historic and tourist sites in the near future after approval by the city government.
In 2020, Vietnam Posts and Telecommunication (VNPT) will set up more free public Wi-Fi hotspots at tourist attractions in the urban districts, including some areas in the Old Quarter, One Pillar Pagoda, Hoa Lo Prison relic, 48 Hang Ngang street relic, Hanoi Opera House, Vietnam Military History Museum, Vietnamese Women’s Museum, the Temple of Literature, Van Phuc Silk Village, among others.
The newly set up Wi-Fi hotspots will be put into operation by October 10 to mark the 1010th anniversary of Thang Long – Hanoi foundation.
This is part of the city’s effort to promote tourism in the 2016-2020 period and the coming years, while also supporting the building of e-government and smart cities.
The goal is also to contribute to accelerating the promotion of the capital’s potentials, tourism products, services and tourist attractions; create a beautiful impression on Hanoi – a peaceful, safe and friendly city in the eyes of foreigners.
A representative of the city tourism industry said there will always be free Wi-Fi in Hanoi. When connected, users can access high-speed Internet with unlimited capacity and number of logins.
The number of Wi-Fi hotspots has been expanded to facilitate Hanoi residents and tourists in reading news, looking up information, watching movies, listening to music and performing public services.
On Hanoi Book Street, the Wi-Fi test on September 14 showed a connection that is easy to maneuver reached a speed of approximately 80 megabits per second.
Previously, in 2017, the city started offering free Wi-Fi access around popular destinations such as Hoan Kiem lake, the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long historical site, Huong (Perfume) pagoda and Bat Trang Ceramic Craft Village.
Hanoi is not the first city in Vietnam to provide free Wi-Fi. Tourist cities like Hoi An, Hue and Danang in the central region and Hai Phong and Ha Long in the north have gone wireless since 2012.
Besides, many other localities, including famous tourist site of Da Lat (Lam Dong province), Phu Quoc (Kien Giang provinc), have plans to deploy free public Wi-Fi systems. Hanoitimes
