One Pillar Pagoda

The One Pillar Pagoda as part of Dien Huu complex is a historic Buddhist temple in Hanoi and one of Vietnam’s most iconic temples. The temple was located in what was then the Tay Cam Garden in Thach Bao, Vinh Thuan district in the capital of Thang Long in the Ly Dynasty (now known as Hanoi).

One Pillar Pagoda
According to Complete Annals of Dai Viet, the temple was built by Emperor Lý Thái Tông, who ruled from 1028 to 1054. The temple was built of wood on a single stone pillar 1.25 m in diameter, and it is designed to resemble a lotus blossom. The One Pillar Pagoda was designated as a historical, architectural and artistic monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on April 28th 1962.

The Temple of Literature

The Temple of Literature (Văn Miếu in Vietnamese) is a temple of Confucius in Hanoi, Vietnam. The temple hosts the “Imperial Academy” (Quốc Tử Giám in Vietnamese), Vietnam’s first national university. The temple of literature was built in 1070 at the time of King Ly Thanh Tong (1054 – 1072). In 1076, King Ly Nhan Tong built the Imperial Academy close to the Temple of Literature and used to be the University for Imperial Families only.

Van Mieu – Quoc Tu Giam was listed as a historical and cultural monument by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on April 28th 1962.

Flag Tower of Hanoi – A heroic and sacred symbol of the city

Flag Tower of Hanoi

Located on Dien Bien Phu street, Ba Dinh district, Hanoi, Flag Tower was built in 1812 during the reign of Emperor Gia Long in the southern land of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long. This is one of the few old buildings in Hanoi still remaining after the destruction by French colonial authorities from 1894 to 1897.

In October 1954, the national flag of Vietnam was on top of the tower for the first time.

Flag Tower of Hanoi was recognized as a historic landmark in 1989.
