Singaporean artist Teoh Yi Chie visited Hanoi for one week in March 2015 and sketched images of the city.
Chie said this was his first trip to Hanoi and he had no idea of what to expect. He added that it was sort of a last minute trip because the initial plan was to go for the Great Ocean Road drive in Australia and then visit Sydney.
My girlfriend felt that it was going to be too much of a rush so we went to Hanoi instead.
I had looked up the climate of Hanoi and noted March was supposed to be the period where there’s the least amount of rainfall. For the one week I was there, it drizzled almost every day.
“The drizzle there is so fine it’s almost misty. October is the best time to visit Hanoi, as I was told by the manager at the hotel I stayed at.”
“Hanoi is really quite an interesting city. It’s a bit disorderly but it has its charm. Hotels are surprisingly nice even though you won’t be able to tell by the clutter of the streets.”
His journey began on March 7 and it ended with many fond memories. Apart from Hanoi, he visited Halong Bay.
Teoh Yi Chie said that he would come back to Hanoi and may return with some friends to continue his travelogue sketchbook.
Here are the sketches from Chie’s one-week Hanoi trip:
